Pardon Me, I'm All Vaklempt and Full of SQUEEEEE!

Well hello, Mr. President-Elect! How you doin'?

Tonight Barack Obama made history! And I only wish I could have been there in person to hear him speak. Except when it came time to hunt for my car because holy hell can you imagine trying to navigate your way out of that when it was time to go home? Where'd we park again? I don't know, Indiana I think.

We pause to bring you the obligatorily point at random person in the crowd.

It's a new day...I can smell the hope. Can you?

P.S. Except that I have to go to bed knowing that Proposition 8 is currently leading with 53% in favor and really hoping that number changes before I wake up in the morning.

P.P. S. WTF California?!?

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Dude. just Wow. Really unhappy about Prop 8 (what was the official word?). but still so amazed. Also slightly jealous of the Obama girls newly promised puppy.

With the exception of Prop 8, it's a great day!

Vaklempt and full of Squeeeeee sums it up nicely!

Looks like two random people got the point. It would have been something to have been there. Except crowds freak me out.

Yeah...squee and all...but Florida's Amendment 2 passed to the detriment of all domestic partnerships everywhere. Am so bummed.

But wasn't that speech awesome? Catch all the bullet proof glass at the front of the stage? Or was that a supersized telepromter?

Pride, tears, hope, fear (for his safety), more pride, and more HOPE!

I wanted to be there too - to take my son to see that, so he would remember and know what a HUGE deal this is! He'll grow up in a world where a black man in the white house is no big deal - can you imagine?

We have a smidgen of hope left for 8--let's hope we pull it out.

I am *shocked* that Prop 8 is passing (92% in). Especially in light of the history we're making. Does. not. compute.

Yes we can! Eeeee!

But what's up with all the gay rights stuff not passing. Grr! Why?!?!?

The world is proud!!!!

except for prop 8...are you serious?

It's weird waking up with a feeling that you KNOW the person that's going to be in office. Like, you're pals or something. Ok, maybe he doesn't want to be my pal, but I woke up feeling really friggin good.

Oh, and he was pointing at me thankyouverymuch.

WTF CA, indeed. And a HUGE WTF to Arkansas for banning gays from adopting. I thought we were better than this.

Even though it looks like Prop. 8 may very well pass, I really liked the perspective that was shared by a gay couple in SF. Their perspective was that 8 years ago when we had our first proposition defining marriage as only being between a man and a woman, it passed overwhelmingly with a 20% point spread. This proposition looks to be much more close (3% to 4%). So even though it passed this time around, it definitely looks like the gap is narrowing.

Very excited about Obama. Very defeated about Prop 8. I just don't get it.

VERY happy about Obama, so sad about Prop 8. What is up with you CA?

i live in illinois. a coworker was at the rally last night. surprisingly, she said it was so peaceful! she didn't get pushed, shoved or even touched. NOT ONCE. that, to me, is amazing.

no one could drive. it was all train service, the El. and it was a slow, slow train day.she took the 11.30 train and didn't get home (about a 40 minute drive) until 2.30am.

Seriously, even from the radical hotbed here in the North, "Yes on prop. 8" was still more visible in ads and signs than "No - what are you thinking?" Lots of money from another state rolled in on this one. It's a shame and a travesty. And frankly, an embarrassment.

Vaklempt. Sums it up so nicely.

What's up with the final 4% of the votes that haven't been accounted for yet in CA?

I was SO excited about Obama last night, but my excitement/joy/squeeeeing is cut short by Prop 8. SO freaking close. I am spitting FIRE.

I am really THRILLED that Obama is our new President.

I am dumbfounded and sad at the current status of Prop 8. I can only hope that when all the absentee ballots are counted that it will be NO on PROP 8!!

I'm going around reading everyone's blog posts, celebrating with all of them! Hurrah!

Okay, so I've seen many variations: Squeeeeee, squee! and of course, the ever popular, Squeeeeeeeeee!!!!

I think we need a new word. How about 'YaBaDaBa DOO!'

Taken? Well, do you have a better suggestion.

Random finger point? I thought it had something to do with cabinet selection.

Kidding, kidding -- I voted for Obama, too. Even changed my political affiliation because of this election.

Yes on Prop 8 ran a highly motivated, organized and PERSONALLY INVESTED campaign, well-funded, of course -- vs. the Anti camp (I'm in that one) which was the polar opposite. Not that we didn't care, but that we just didn't do as much, as a group.

Also, it's tied in with people's religious beliefs, which are harder to change than anything else.

This will come up again, and the No side will be better armed, I think. I think I will be.

Sorry -- too much coffee! : )

I was in tears watching the election returns last night. Partly because Obama was elected and the historic proportion of that in and of itself...partly because Obama was elected and there is a part of me that is afraid for him and his family, and partly because Oprah was there (and she had more secret service guys around her than Obama did) AND I can't believe Prop 8 passed.

(i feel a post coming on here, quick where's the nearest phone booth)

Yeah, it's pretty awesome.

I have voted in elections since I was a senior in high school in 1986. But this time? I cried. Several times. Last night was one of the most memorable nights of my life.

YES WE CAN!

Are any of you from the south? I don't me Florida, Georgia...

I'm talking Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri...

Things are so different for us.

Banning gays from adopting was what got the attention...it also prevents ANYONE who is not married from adopting.
Question: If you are too scared to committ to a marriage, why should you be allowed to adopt a child? Thats a bigger committment than marriage don't you think?

Tootsie Farklepants said...

Kaye~ That argument assumes that the reason someone isn't married is because they're scared.

A) if they're a gay couple they aren't ALLOWED to marry

B) just because someone is single doesn't mean they're scared to commit it's just that they haven't found someone they wish to marry.

Frankly I think a loving home is better than no home at all.

Shame on California (prop 8). And YEAH United States, namely my little state that could, Colorado that turned Blue last night. Oh and we defeated the "definition of a person" amendment!

(delurking)...I really think this is the most important civil rights struggle for generation...whatever we are now. Z? AA? In 20 years, California's dumbassery will be a blip on the arc to FULL civil rights for all people. It's inevitable...it's just going to take longer, unfortunately. We'll get there. Taking the long view, things on that front are improving.

Also...SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
