And Doesn't Give You Nicole Kidman Forehead

While getting my hair done last week I couldn't help but notice how beautiful my hairdresser's skin is. She quite literally glows and seems to have zero pores. Not that this is a total anomaly but she's in her forties and looks to be about thirty-two maybe.

I've been using Clinique foundation for most of my adult life and I have recently noticed that either they've changed the formula of their CityBase foundation or my own chemical makeup is making its transition to middle age. What was once a perfect product for my skin is now too thick, too dry, too cakey and too noticeable. I'm aware of its presence and I hate that. And Mr. Farklepants is aware of it too. On the rare day that I skip the primping process and let my hair air dry and leave my face au natural he'll say, "Did you do something different today"? And I'm all, I didn't do anything period. And he's like, "Why DO you wear makeup anyway? You look better without it" and then I tear off my velour track pants and roll around on him [kind of the glue in our marriage].

Ahem. So not really being one to embrace change, I've put off trying to find a suitable substitute for the Clinique. But if my hairdresser can look that amazing then I wanted to know her secret and since she's a pro she might know some tricks of the trade. Her secret? Oil of Olay somethingorother tinted something whatsawhosit. I don't know. I didn't write it down. Then I found myself in Walmart the makeup aisle with unlimited options before me and terribly confused. And I settled for this:

Cue the Hallelujah Chorus. It is Revlon's Age Defying Makeup and it is not even joking. It contains Botafirm™, which contrary to what you may think, does not keep your yacht from sagging [although, maybe it does since I've yet to test that theory by rubbing it on a sea worthy vessel]. I'll tell you what it IS though: it's magic. It's a new friggen face in a bottle is what it is. It goes on light and smooth. It's not greasy nor does it become so hours later. It's not too thick but also not too sheer. It smooths out lines instead of sinking into them. And the fantastic part is [as if that all wasn't enough] that it's virtually undetectable. And half the price of the Clinique.

The fountain of youth comes in a 1.25 ounce bottle for $11.69!

*Warning: For external use only. Do not use on infants.*

P.S. Don't forget to enter the giveaway!

Wow. I've never worn make-up, and that still sounds tempting!

I hate you. I mean, I used to never have to wear makeup and the older I get the more nature's ways make it necessary to paint the barn. And you? You can take it all off and gain the attention of the male gender in a GOOD way. Plus you've got great hair.

I have been looking for a good foundation. Thank you for the tip. I will be trying it. WooHoo for the glue that keeps you and hubby together (sans makeup and all)!

Holy crap I've got to get some of that magic!

I'm sorry you've reached one of the "Age Defying" moments in life!

Thanks for sharing. I am going to talk about St. Ives apricot scrub on my blog. My pores are visibly tighter when I get out of the shower. It's inexpensive, so worth a try.

I'm mortally afraid of buying new make-up. Very proud of you for taking the plunge!

I've used it and LOVE it too! I alternate between this and mineral makeup.

I refuse to be "age-defying." I want to be "not nearly old enough to actually need this, but try it just for fun!"

I am soooo hitting Wally World this weekend, of course with that pic printed out! I get all overwhelmed just standing in the make up isle with sooo many choices and fear i will get the wrong one! I prefer to get testimonial advice from others too!

I've also been looking for something new. I'll check this out.

Thanks for the tip. I have to get some now and try it out.

I buy foundation (Clinques City stuff is one of them) but I never actually put it on....

I actually do have a bottle of the Age-Defying stuff I use if I really have to Go Out, but that's so seldom it hardly happens.

I swear by Cetaphil for washing my face - not soap. that's the only rigid habit I have.

But Tootsie, you look so lovely without makeup.

Glad you found a fix. I am intrigued by the promise of a smoother forehead...

I'm not a foundation wearer, but that sounds damn good.

I'll swear by my Bare Minerals any day of the week.

the age spots and pores and lines and wrinkles are a fact of life that no amount of foundation of any brand can completely eliminate...sorry.

the trick is how you disguise them.

I got hooked on Bare Minerals from the infomercial.

...I will try the hubby romp though.

I went through this recently, too! I am 40 and wasn't liking my foundation anymore.

A few weeks ago, I picked up Cover Girl's Advanced Radiance Restorative Cream, which actually has some Olay product in it. I LOVE IT! It's silky smooth, lasts all day, not too heavy, etc.

Next time I might try yours, though, just for comparison's sake. Thanks!

I've been a Bare Minerals user for a number of years. But I think my skin is changing, too, and it's just not looking as good on me as it used to so I've been thinking about trying something new. I'll have to give this a look, thanks!

I'll give it a go... Can't hurt, except for ~$12... I've actually not been using any foundation, but am hooked on coverup in all the right places. Love your "glue" ;-)

When will Mr. Farklepants teach that class on "Flattery Will Get You Everywhere With Your Wife, Especially In Her Pants"??? My husband desperately needs to be in that class....

Ooh. I'll have to look into that. I'm using a MAC cosmetics foundation, but it's too heavy and greasy now—not a good combination on a 39-year-old face.

My hubby says the same thing to me about makeup and I thought he was pulling my leg until he told me he even liked the freckles on my lips, which I never even noticed were there. Yeah, I melted in his arms. When he's home I don't wear makeup just for him.

If I weren't too lazy to use makeup (even when I do have a job) I'd try it, but I always buy makeup with grandiose plans and never follow through. I don't blow dry my hair either. When did I get so lazy?

My daughter, the Cosmo Girl, turned me on to Bare Minerals...in fact she bought it for me! I can't even tell I'm wearing it. (Hope nobody else can, either)

I didn't even start wearing makeup till I was around 45. Guess I'm a late bloomer.

I have been having the same problem, only I started using minerals. Covergirl Minerals I think. Anyway, I put on my moisturizer then mineral powder. NO Foundation. I have gotten more comments about how I lost weight.
It reflects the lines you don't see them. And it's only been one week.

I'm all about the Bobbi Brown these days. I used to get by with the Loreal, but I believe those days are over. Sigh.

Turned 40 last week. Right now my skin-care regimen consists of Dove to wash, Clinique 7-day scrub to...scrub, concealer to...conceal and Noxema to wipe off eye make up.

I think I should try some foundation and/or moisturizer but my skin isn't dry so I think it'll give me zits. The forehead? Well, it's not Kidman but has its own issues nonetheless.

Thank you, Tootsie Revlon-pants

JCK said...

Does this mean you will be doing less rolling around because you're wearing this? None of my business, of course.

I swear by Oil of Delay. I've never really used liquid makeup before, however, this summer was brutal despite wearing sunscreen and I'm now sporting little freckles all over my face, so I'm thinking I might try the Revlon stuff. Freckles are cool and all but they make me look all of twelve years old.

So, I was at the store today, standing in the makeup aisle, wanting something to eliminate the Nicole Kidman forehead that I am sporting (My four year old keeps asking me why there are stripes on my forehead) and I remembered your wisdom. At Kroger, this magic in a bottle is 50% off right now. $6 my friend and I came right home and tried it out. No more stripey head for me. God bless your beautiful soul!

Thanks so much for reassuring me that the foundation I've been using for ages is great, and that I'm not the only woman out here searching for a little assistance without total alteration or distortion.
By the way if anyone does want to see what Nicole Kidman's forehead looks like
