The More Than Adequate Bowl's Fifteen Minutes

In response to yesterday's post, O'Neil left the following comment:

"Wait, what about that awesome green bowl? What do I need to do to win IT? I got a thing for green in my kitchen ;) lol!"

Well, let me tell you about my little green bowl. I bought it just after Christmas last year at Cost Plus World Market -and if you don't have one of these near you that is a crime and you should draw up a petition, hit the pavement, and contact your state and city officials to get a team on this toot sweet because this is the greatest store ever and if you were wondering what to get me for my birthday that's coming up in the next couple of weeks, gift cards are welcome. I'm kidding. My birthday is twenty-nine days away- ahem. The bowl. I spied it sitting precariously on the clearance rack, our eyes met, and I knew she had to be mine. She was originally $19.99 with a red 40% off ticket slapped on her backside -the saucy tart. This put her at twelve dollars. But wait! She was sitting on the 75% off shelf! [I did the math in my head and was all, so are they going to pay me to take this? Answer: Repeat basic math you insufferable dolt] ...Which took an additional $9 off of that sale price. She was mine for the low low price of $3, that's right. [Or as my mother in law would say, what a coup! That's for you Mr. Farklepants because I've now saved you the trouble of typing those exact words in the comment section. You're welcome]

Warning: the bowl is made of wood and only good for dry items like dinner rolls or fake food or contest giveaways. In other words, it is not water tight which I found out while demonstrating a more v less experiment for Boy-Child#2 and poured three cups of water into it. Which promptly leaked all over the kitchen counter - who knew?

If you like green you will probably also be interested in my massive water wine goblets [also from Cost Plus World Market but not for three dollars]:

They were a Christmas gift from Mr. Farklepants. And also my parents. Because it was one of those random occurrences where everyone got me the same gift where random equals every damn holiday [the rest of the family is also not immune to multiple duplicate gifts and you'd think by now we'd remember to hang on to receipts -not bloody likely]

Now I've got my eye on this beauty:

However, I doubt I'll walk away with her for three dollars. And she's much too pretty to sit on or rest your stinkin' feet. Because if there's one more thing my family has been begging for it's another piece of furniture they're not allowed to touch. I've heard whispers of a mutiny being staged.

After I read it is not only wooden, but the super duper sale price? I had to get a paper bag to breathe into. Green with envy, literally! I absolutely love shopping trips like that and will be high for days after.

Our drinking glasses, well, one set of several, are vintage 60's green and hubby can not understand why they are NOT allowed out of the house to ride around in his work van. After he massacred my entire set of 4 XL bright apple red Pier One ceramic mugs, he is banned to plastic Subway cups!

Off to mapquest that store... ;)

Our World Market recently closed. I'm still in mourning. Oh, and my husband is limited to the big plastic mug from the local convenience store. He's not responsible enough for the "pretty" glasses.

Footstool? I thought it was a large pin cushion. And I wanted it!

Never return nice wine glasses. Following our wedding shower, we had in excess of 25 everyday wine glasses. It took us years to break them all.

Also, I can not abide anyone drinking wine out of plastic, ever so it was nice to have ALL of them for parties, etc.

Just when I thought I was going to have a productive day, now I have to go to World Market...thanks Tootsy. :)

Awesome deal on the green bowl - that must have been very satisfying. We have a Cost Plus World Market in Hampton/Newport News. I would have to go through that tunnel that you blogged about many moons ago. I hate tunnels, therefore, no shopping trip to C.P.W.M. :(

I always forget that I love that store. We have one not too far from us. I may have to meander over there one of these days! Everyone needs a bowl that is more than adequate, and pretty, too.

I love World Market with the fire of a thousand suns and stop in Columbus whenever we are driving through so that I can visit it. I'm guessing that because our laws regarding the sale of beer/alcohol suck big hairy donkey balls, we'll never have one of our very own here in Pittsburgh. Perhaps that's for the best since I would probably move into the housewares dept. Permanently.

Wow. That's some bargain. I yearn for things children can't touch. But I'm not stupid enough to buy them because I always lose that battle.

I love Cost Plus--it's sort of like Pier 1--only a lot more affordable.

I LOVE World Market. If I could afford it, I would furnish my ENTIRE house from there.

Plus, they have all the weird food I like.

Since I live 5 hours away from one, I can only stock up on weird food whenever I go back to New Orleans to visit friends. Sigh....

29 days, huh? I hope you posted that on big letters in front of Mr. F's mirror as a subtle reminder.

Bossy used to adore a farm table in World Market - just really utilitarian and distressed-ish --but she just tried to look it up on their site and it's gone. Figures, it was cheap.

Three bucks? I'll tell my husband it's your fault when I race over there and spend way more than $3.

I love World Market too. They have the best clearance section. I never can wait that long to buy something. What a steal you got on that bowl.

I was eyeballing that little footstool's relatives here in Washington. There is a size larger that I have been sizing up for a while. Size does matter ya know?
I have been trying to find a spot for it to live and not be noticed for at least a month or so. Then when it's noticed after a month or more I'll say "NO!" "it's not new, it's been there!"

When Cost Plus opened near me, I dropped five hundred bucks in approximately 30 seconds.

I LOVE that place. In fact I just purchased 3 bottles of wine there today, "Evil" (upside-down on the label), "Zombie Zinfandel" and "Trick". They will look lovely with candles in them on Halloween. Of course I have to drink all the wine first. Darn. The sacrifices I make.

Haha my mom has a thing for little footstools too. I just don't get it! But we have those same wine goblets but in an amber color. :)

I love that store! Every time I go I get the urge to put together a gift basket for someone.

OK, you still got a kidney?

Cause I totally want that footstool and it will probably cost that to ship it to me here in Oz.

I would give you one of mine but I sold them for fuel for my car.

If you do buy it, let me know and I will send you a pic of my feet to rest on it.

Oh I HEART World Market. Amazing wine selection, awesome housewares, and one of the only places I can find Twinings tea.

I have that same bowl - in red. It's our fruit bowl. It is a great and wonderful bowl. I think I paid full price, so now I feel ripped off.

After sprinting to the World Market website, I have found out that they have not quite gotten to New England yet. I will have to stick with TJMaxx clearance aisle and Target's clearance aisle until the wonderful store comes East!
