My Son Wanted Me to get the One With the Clock. Should Have Listened.

How did I manage to buy the only coffee maker without an automatic shut-off? Now I have to be diligent. The one who leaves her house wondering if she remembered to unplug her curling iron or shut off her flat iron.

Me: Does this thing not shut off by itself?
Mr.F: Let me see the manual..... Nope. You screwed up.
Me: You think I'll forget, don't you.
Mr.F: It's only a matter of time.
Me: Now you're just waiting for me to do it.
Mr.F: Oh, you will. And you'll have a burnt coffee pot.
Me: Oh, now it's on.

Everything is a competition.

Game. Set. Match.

To me the automatic Turn ON is more important. It's like having a coffee butler.

If the place burns down AFTER my coffee I'm fine.

My house often still smells of coffee at 3:00 in the afternoon.

I need auto-shutoff. Why do they make any other kind??

We got one with all the bells and whistles. I mean it. It beeps when its done, it beeps when you've forgotten to fill it, and every time the power goes off you have to reset everything. It does turn off though. I like that but hate the beeping.

"Nope. You screwed up."

Great stuff. I'm sure you could just take it back to Walmart. That should be a quick, painless process, like open heart surgery.

Is your homeowners fire insurance up to date?

I say replace it before he wins.

Same thing around here, always a competition
I thought you would have had too much of a hangover from the bloghernot party to post something today :)

Now that is my kind of house--the competitive kind!

I would love to have one with an automatic shut off or an automatic starter. Mine is a french press and requires way too much effort.

I'm the kind of person who freaks out halfway to where ever I'm going wondering if I shut off (insert appliance name here) and have been known to turn around and drive home. So I can feel your pain.

Auto shut-off is a requirement around here because I might have just a slight case of OCD, and by "slight case", I mean "I have to check 12 times to make sure I really did turn the oven off."

Putting my own weird issues aside, at least briefly, I'm going to be on Team Tootsie on this one. I think you'll bring your game like Bobby Flay bringin' a throwdown. (Well, except you'll actually win.)

If it's anything like ours which makes an annoying click every few seconds there is no way you can forget the damn thing is on! Trust me.

Stumbed over from OhMommy...

and I love the sign at the top of your blog...

competition -- the secret to every successful marriage... at least at our house it is!

I bet that you'll never burn it now... I mean, who can back down to a challenge like that ;-)

Automatic shut off essential. I didn't even know they made them these days without it.

If Vtech and Fisher Price can do it, why can't Mr. Coffee??

Go exchange it while he's out.

the way I handle this ( and I know that you have checked your blog 40 times today waiting for my response..ha ha) is when I check the coffee pot to make sure it's off I say out loud "Honey! When i ask you later if the coffee pot is off, tell me yes. If I don't ask you, then it's your fault for not checking to make sure it's off." Iam sure in my past somewhere i learned how to play these mindgames, but obviously I've blocked it.

oh, btw, everyone I know has read the walmart self check out post....I HAD to share...it was brilliant!

Nothing adds to one's day like a little OCD. Just another addition to the morning ritual! Yay!

Mr. Barking Mad will no longer allow ANY coffee maker without an auto-shut off. Or an iron without an auto shut off. Or a slow cooker that has a timer of more than ten hours.

Um yeah, burnt is the new black around these parts.

Nanny Goats In Panties said...

Burn it now, get it over with, say you did it on purpose and go out and get yourself a new one that auto shuts off already! Why add undue stress?

Cynthia said...

I wouldn't be able to take the pressure. Just burn it and get it over with!

Anonymous said...

Well, if you burn it, you can go get another one. One with an auto shut-off. ;)

Why would a company still make a machine without auto-shutoff? I say it's THEIR fault for being morons stuck in the 80's.

If it makes you feel at all better, after leaving a tea kettle of water on the hot plate for about 6 hours in our teacher's lounge, I bought a cheap coffee maker [not auto-off] for my classroom office. And left it "warming" water overnight.

The good news: Nothing burned to the ground.

Best of luck.

We have one that doesn't have a heater...it makes the coffee and it all goes into a thermal carafe that keeps it pretty hot all morning into the afternoon. LOVE it. It was a splurge when we got married and it was SO worth it. So, we compete about other things... :)

Seriously, I vote for switching it out before the husband figure it out. There has to be a model that 'almost' looks the same.

Why do they even make one that doesn't automatically shut off? I smell a lawsuit if things go poorly ~

I'm so confused... why did you delete the part of the story where Mr. F is offering his assistance in ensuring it's turned off?

I'm thinking I just missed that part, that's all.

Whoops - it appears Bad Princess got out of her cage. Oh no! Look out everybody! Run Toto, run!

TP :-)

A sad oversight indeed. I couldn't live without automatic shut off and we would be divorced as a result of my OCD husband's calls to remind me to turn the freaking thing off.

I'm on team Tootsie. You go girl! I'll be routing in your corner. Woot woot!

Damn coffee pot. This is the new millenium. Those things should do it ALL for us. EVERYTHING. Including washing themselves.

Nothing says morning like the smell of burnt coffee ....mmmm...mmmmm ... good.

Wineplz said...

that's why you get one with a carafe instead of a burner and pot.

or one with auto-shut-off.

since I'm a belt-and-suspenders kind of girl, I got one that does both.
