I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that January is a very popular month for people to use intercourse as a means to keep warm. Or that New Year's Eve is one hell of a party. Details. October has been the busiest birthday month. Not just for our family either, although it does include three members of the Farklepants household and a couple of nieces; but the kids and their friends as well. It's been non-stop birthday party extravaganzas all month long. Every weekend has been occupied by them. People? You need to find a new hobby for January. What ever happened to knitting sweaters? Or looking at television.
But that's not at all what this post is about. That was just an observational aside.
Last week, a certain Boy-Child#1 rocked the house at the local music store's jam night; featured on the guitar and kicking ass with Metallica's No Remorse.
He looks to his instructor for cues:
My sister looks to his instructor for a marriage proposal and some children. You can't see her because she's drooling taking the pictures but just trust me.
Pardon me, Mr. Instructor: Look behind you. She's the one.
Note the solo. And intricate fingering...wait. Stop it.
This is not his guitar. He borrowed this from his father because he needed a guitar with extra frets and kdospjaf, or something. Forgive me, I don't speak musical instrument. My children possess all the musical talent in this family; I'm just their driver. With his second live performance behind him [his first being the pancake breakfast for the sixth graders last June], the only next logical step in creating a rock star was this:
When he asked Mr. Farklepants and I if we would allow him to pierce his ear we were like, yeah I guess. If you want to. Which was met with genuine shock from Boy-Child#1. "I thought you guys would say NO WAY"! And we were all, have you even met us? Can we get you a tattoo while we're at it?

Whoo Hoo! Rock Star! He's got some cool parents to allow the earring!
I actually know the statistics on most popular times to get pregnant! Spring (April to May) is #1, closely followed by the time from Thanksgiving to New Year's. You're welcome.
Here in Jenworld, we have THREE September birthdays AND celebrate another dozen or so family birthdays in the same time period PLUS another 6-8 friends' birthday. After my second September due date, I started looking at my husband with a wary eye during the holiday season.
#1 is just oozing coolness all over da place!! I'm thinking that my hub would want to come and play...to him, THAT is the way to spend an evening!! (and he has an earring...he'd fit in..we'd have to fake a tat but...it's been done before!!).
Instructor dude is hot, yes, but...the drummer..with the DEVOish hat...HE's has my vote!!
You and Mr. F. are just the coolest parents around...I'm bowing down in your direction! :-D
So awesome! You two will definitely be thanked on the liner notes when he releases his first CD!
As long as the instructor is the one with the guitar and not the one with the red lampshade on his head, then I think your sister has good taste!
He totally loves me. I just know it!
Hey no way- I have one of those too! You know a long hair, young boy/man/child thing that plays guitar and rocks out.
But an earring? Really? My kid asked and I said. 'Oh Sure. I mean if you don't mind sorta looking like a girl. Totally. I'll take you right now'...yeah he never asked again. Mines only 10...so maybe in a few years. He asked to dye his hair yesterday. So maybe I will cave on that.
Love these photos. He looks SO DANG COOL. Boys rock
I think I dodged a bullet here because neither of my musician sons has asked for a piercing or a tattoo. Their thing has been hair. Lots of hair.
BTW, my word verification is "flogin." Who am I flogging? You should do a post on the word verification gibberish!
Holy crap that boy is gorgeous. He's going to have girls lined up drooling behind HIM before too long. What with the hair and the guitar playing and the soulful eyes. Tootsie, I hate to say it, but you've got trouble ahead.
I'm going to use this post in January as a cautionary tale here at home.
Your boy is seriously cool, almost as cool as his parents for letting him get the ear pierced. Rock on...
You will be featured in Rolling Stone when he breaks into the big time--the byline will be "Best Rock Parents Ever" or obviously something better than I can come up with.
The birthdays start in October for us and don't end until June. We have no moola for months...
He is awesome and I totally will let my son get his ear peirced too. IDK about my hubby but I am fine with it.
Perhaps we should arrange a partial family swap. All of our birthdays (and by "our" I mean SERIOUSLY 14 immediate family members) are in January and February. My budget would greatly appreciate it if we could spread that birthday lovin' out a little bit.
We are all the same-- which is why our oldest has shoulder length hair (boy) and the girl got her ears pierced the second she said "can I?" at 7, much to the judgment and shock of others.
Congrats on these milestones!!!
I too have noticed all the birthday's this month and Boy 1 is also an October birthday. And yesterday at the pumpkin patch I must of seen 5 or 6 pregnant women!
Yep. I am a Halloween baby and my parents' anniversary is in January. That's a nice visual.
Yeah...hold off on that tattoo. Leave something for the drunken college days of the future. His, I mean.
My 6 year old (conceived on 2/10/2002, TMI?) wants a mohawk. I think with his curls he'll look like Mr. T but maybe he needs to learn the hard way.
for some reason my comments never posted before...
I don't even remember what I said.
Something to the effect that that tiny earring is no big deal. At least he didn't get an eyebrow or tongue piercing (yet)
Plus- if you are ever in need of one earring ...which are only sold in pairs - we have lots of singles here!
Dude, your boy child is awesome. I'm so glad he was able to get the kdslopaj - clearly it made a difference in his rockin'.
You are the coolest parents.
Clothes and food and hair (and ear piercings) are not important issues. Character is.
Famous words written by an old family friend on the baby card she sent us after the premature and traumatic birth of Teen/Child. Little did I know how very, very important they would be.
I like the Devo hat on the drummer.
And yeah, Boy Child#1 does look very cool on the guitar!
i can feel your sister's longing for him through the lens.
