I Don't Admit I Just Infer

Have you ever gone through your closets and dresser drawers; purging them to make space and also to give away what you no longer wear. And to throw away what no one in their right mind would wear? Also the stuff with the tears and holes in them? Then did you realize that you no longer have any grubby around the house clothes to wear for things like housework and home improvement projects? The clothes you don't mind ruining?

Did you ever go out to the trash to retrieve some of them?

Me? I asked you first.

WHAT?

I've never done that. Never.

Totally didn't just do it last weekend.

And for SURE I wouldn't go digging in there for the rare piece of artwork my 3-yr-old constructed and I fawned over and then I put it in there cuz you have to make decisions, like three rare art pieces out of ten, or you'll die in an explosion of crayola, you know?

Wasn't me.

Well not the trash so to say, but as a former thrift store owner I NEVER throw anything away. I just can't bring myself to do it!

I AM guilty though of seeing people checking out my old clothes at my garage sale and deciding I still want it...taking it back inside! (Sometimes out of their hands, literally...I know, I need help!)

Oh, and why is it that men wear their nicest clothes to work in? Or is it just my hubby? He kills me!

I haven't actually pulled anything out of the trash, but I have had second thoughts and raided the garage sale pile.

Wish I did. One day when I was cleaning out the old to make way for the new (read: larger size), I threw out my most favorite, only pair that actually fit me, hottest looking, modern jeans.

Had I realized it before trash day, I woulda dumpster dove for those!

Does digging through the bags in my trunk that are headed for Goodwill count?

We've moved alot, so it's like No Looking Back for us. We had a HUGE garage sale (made $3K) before we moved to TX. I am still looking for things that I guess were sold in the sale. We've unpacked everything, so, I guess it's in some other home now. Oh well, it's a good excuse to buy something new!

Sounds like a good excuse to not do housework or home projects anymore - well at least the housework part - "I don't have a thing to wear"!

After years of begging and pleading, I've finally convinced my husband to throw out old underwear when they need to go. Now, he's actually into it. He marches to the trash can humming a funeral dirge when he does the toss. What can I say? We're special people.

I would certainly do it if I had gotten that far...

Throw things away? Organize? I don't understand that language.

Hubby and I JUST did that this weekend.

ANd we're having a hellaciously HUGE yard sale and then remembered we needed grubbies to wear to go through all the crap in the garage.

Back to the garbage bins we went.

Ya.

Been there. Done that.

I have even been found saving scraps of food as they fall into the trash. "Oh, a chicken nugget. Let me save you...."

Unfortunately I have this knack of throwing going through the whole mess of house, putting stuff in a pile & going out to retrieve items from the pile of stuff to wear for the rest of the cleaning & then carefully slipping them back into the pile before its too late to deliver them to the thrift store. Long, confusing message...blame two bottles of wine & NO housework! ha ha

Gosh, I always have some ratty piece of clothing laying around, it's the comfy stuff, right?

I'm more the person who buys the new stuff intending to throw out the old, cruddy stuff and continues to wear the cruddy stuff anyway. (is that how you spell cruddy?)

I don't know what you're talking about. Shut up.

Actually, because I am capable of such behavior, my policy now is to stuff everything in whatever shopping bags I have and immediately put them in the car trunk. I drive by a Goodwill everyday; I drop off whatever is in the trunk without looking back.

I didn't say I don't cry about it later...

I love cleaning out closets -- mine, my children's, and my husband's. But, if I clean out his stuff, even just one holey pair of underwear, he gets upset. So I have to be sneaky and only toss out the worst stuff and not too frequently or else he'll catch on.

So, NO, I don't encourage any digging through the trash after I've tossed stuff.

yeah...me too...not really understanding what you're saying.

I learned my lesson a long time ago...as soon as I throw something away, sure as shebang, I will need it. So I just skip all the stress and don't throw much of anything away.
Of course, now my hub is trying to guilt me into throwing away stuff..."if you throw away all the junk then we will have more good luck and maybe more money."....yeah..okay....it's all me and my pack-rat-tendencies fault. whatevah!!

Been there done that...I want to part with stuff but can't..so hard.

Are you trying to remind me that it's time for end-of-summer closet cleaning? Is that what you're inferring?

Momma Mary said...

You mean I should be cleaning out my drawers? And throwing stuff away? Oh no. Usually the stuff I mean to throw away ends up in a black bag in the guest room. And a few weeks later I end up digging through said bag to find something.

I NEED to get rid of the old stained (but always clean!) t-shirts and shorts at the end of the summer but I just CAN'T. It makes me happy to come home from work after a long day spent in professional wear and put on those soft cool old clothes. I won't wear them away from the house...I promise.

oh yeah, but once i dropped a bunch of stuff off at the thrift store, then realized i'd thrown away the girl's favorite doll and then had to go to the thrift store everyday for 2 weeks waiting for it to appear and then had to buy it back on day 12, when it finally appeared.

Yeah.. clothes.. when they're gone they're gone.

A few cookies tossed out in haste.. well I'm not proud but I've had second thoughts and reclaimed 'em. Yep.

Maybe that's why the clothes have to go in the garbage too.

I do the exact opposite: I can never throw ANYTHING away cuz I might need it for: painting/a smock/crafts/extra clothes at school/extra clothes at gym/costumes/wear Green to school day/old fashioned day/crazy outfit day/rags/clothing a homeless family who shows up at our door...ridiculous.

Er um no. Never. I plead the fifth.

That's when it is time to go to Target!

The person doing the wink-wink-nudge-nudging is implying. The person doing the assuming is inferring. So, you don't admit, you just imply... or so I inferred from your post.

No, and I've never gone back to the trash to see if the chocolate is still good/untouched either.
