Yeah, It's Like That

Do you ever have one of those "OHMAHGAH that's so cool!!!" moments? But really no one to share it with? Okay, then you'll totally understand what freakin' happened on Monday during a routine pedicure. So, like I show up at the nail salon without an appointment because, for reals no one is ever in there; I don't know how they stay in business, plus? They have brand new massage chairs that have a "kneading" feature that's just like, wow. I was all, "Do you have time for a pedicure?" and you know, obviously they do but what else am I supposed to say? Bitch! Chair! Make this thing happen!....? No, probably not.

I pick out my color [plumby red!] and skim through the magazines looking for some celebrity gossip. None. Not one. That's just shameful. How can they call themselves a nail salon? I was so disappointed and even wishing for at least an outdated issue announcing that Britney and Federline were expecting their first son! In my disheartened state I grabbed the first magazine off the top and climbed in my chair, set my massage settings to "knead", thus beginning my trip to nirvana. In my lap lay the magazine that opened of its own accord. And who's picture do I see smiling back at me? Mir from Woulda Coulda Shoulda! I knew she had an article in Redbook because she said as much on her blog recently, but there she was! And I know her. Well, I don't KNOW her, but I "Internet know" her. Which for us blog stalkers bloggers is basically the exact same thing. I had just wished her a happy birthday via Twitter the previous day and she had direct messaged me back, thank you. See? Practically bffs.

I say out loud from my chair to the lady with my feet in her hands, "Heh. I know her", and I point for emphasis. She reacted as if I had just informed her that peas come out of pods. Or that paint is wet when first applied to a wall. Her exact words if, now let me see if I can recall... oh yes, were "oh" and then resumed her BlueTooth conversation. Not even an interested "ohhh??". So I thought, screw her then this is cool what does she know?

I just thought it was kind of awesome. How the Internet connects us. And maybe someday someone will be sitting in their pedicure chair looking at a picture of me. And telling their disinterested footatician.

Ohmigosh, I have moments like that all the time. It drives me nuts! I'll be all, "Whoa, I totally know that guy!" and no one will respond. But that may be because I am very quiet. Still!

I had that on Saturday!

I was at Storyland in NH at the Bamboo Shoots waterslide and saw a woman wearing a Mommy Needs a Cocktail shirt. So naturally, I RAN after her and practically yelled in her face; "I have that shirt!" Clearly she thought I was a lunatic.

Turns out she owns a store in VA and sells them. I name dropped Kristen and she asked if I knew her. Well...that depends on what you mean by "know."

Maybe Twittering doesn't count.

I know a guy who photographs a lot of magazine covers, so I have to resist the urge all the time to tell people about it.

I get it though. Very cool. You can tell us.

I'll have you know that I have squeed OUT LOUD when Mir direct messages me on Twitter. If that doesn't make us BFFs, then I don't know what does. We can all three be BFFs together. I'll go buy the fun heart necklace that breaks into three pieces at lunch today.

Cool! Although you know, *sniffs haughtily* I have actually MET her. (Wich if I'm being totally honest intimidated the HECK out of me at first. {whispers} Still does, kind of!)

Actually, I do this kind of stuff all the time. Hubs is usually like "huh? you know this person?" and I'm like "Well, not REALLY. I mean I read her blog, so I FEEL like I know her."

That's a good one, I know all about the "internet know" her...

They didn't have ANY Us Weekly's or In Touch?
I am not happy with that nail salon. Shameful.
Oh and I think they have some sort of drug hustling service that keeps them open.

Oh how I would love a pedicure. And I can totally relate to the "I know Her/Him thing" and disinterested parties. I say similar things to my husband and he just stares at me blankly and goes on hi way.

Wait. Foot lady was having a BlueTooth conversation while working on your tootsies? That ain't right. Mine screams in Korean/Vietnamese/insert Asian language here across the shop. LOL!

Thanks for the links--I would have totally missed it as my salon has not just gossip rags, but the latest People.

However, I did have to read about how Reese and Ryan balance work, family, and marriage at urgent care the other day!

When you try to explain who you know on-line, non bloggers immediately put you into that 'might be a pervert' category.

First of all- what kind of salon doesn't have trash talk magazines....

and second of all, there is no second of all...I am still calling ahead to see if my US is at the ManiPed Xpress.

I'm almost certain that every time I go get a pedicure (read: rarely) the little ladies tickling my toes are talking shit about me beneath their masks in some other language. I always leave the salon with pretty toe nails and a heavily damaged ego.

Lucky girl! I am so jealous that you were getting a pedicure.

I can TOTALLY relate. Last week, for the first time I discovered & corresponded with a fellow foodie blogger. That VERY night I was on the treadmill, turned on the food network, and there she was doing a cook-off. And it was for the very recipe I saw on her blog that day. She didn't win because her chicken was undercooked but I was so proud to know her!!!!!!!!!! ha ha

I did that w/ Dooce when she was on The Today Show to my husband..but of course when I told my mother she said "what is a Kooce?".. all relative

It's good to know famous people.

I walked in for a pedicure the other day and the cute little lady, without missing a beat, says, "Ahhh, okay, you a pick out uh coluh! Hee hee hee hee!"

I didn't pick out a color.

Okay, I would have been totally impressed.
And the massage chair? I'm a little jealous.

Meeting bloggers is the best, like Cheri said.

It just makes the world a little smaller, and I like that we root for each others' success.

Had I known this would have happened to you, I would have totally given you my cellphone number so you could tell me about it and stuff.

This post made me almost pee my pants. That Toe-a-tician didn't know just how honored she was to be working on those feet of yours.
