Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life at Last I've Found Thee...

Our new couch was supposed to arrive Wednesday or Thursday of last week. I knew by the vague language our salesman used, that it probably wouldn't. But, even with a sketchy arrival date; I prepared. I disposed of the old couch and lamp, coffee table, and end table, had the carpets cleaned, and waited. We moved the sofa from the living room into the family room to have somewhere to watch tv sit. I ordered new lamps [and am currently scouring the earth for THE coffee table because suddenly Mr. Farklepants has an opinion about style and home decorating, WTF? Him: "Don't you think the legs are a little too slanted?" Me: "YOU'RE a little too slanted". Him: "What does that even mean?" Me: "What do YOU even mean?" Him: "I can't talk to you." Me: "Go suck an egg." and so on...]. By Thursday afternoon I still had not received a call to schedule my delivery time, so I KNEW that my couch wasn't being delivered that day; and thus began that ever popular game of phone tag. The store was totally "it". When one drops large amounts of cash on some furniture, one expects a certain level of, you know, service. This is not a beginner couch. This is a grown up couch. We've done the "this will do for now" furniture shopping that parents do when the very real possibility of vomit and other bodily functions may make an appearance on their furniture. In other words, in the past we've shopped knowing that whatever we bought would eventually have to be replaced. Sooner rather than later. But we're older now and our kids are pretty much trained to get any disgusting projectile, from whatever end of their body, into a toilet. Thank god. So? We splurged.

I finally get the salesman on the phone and ask, "WTF dude?" and he is a salesman assures me that I will receive my call for my appointment on Friday or Saturday. Did you get that? Not my couch but a phone call is what I would receive. They called on Friday. While I was in the shower. Thus began another round of phone tag and by now I'm kinda over this game. Only to be told that they only deliver Tuesday through Friday. "I guess Tuesday then" is what I said in my extremely displeased tone. "Between 1pm and 5pm?". "Is that my only option?". "Yes". "Then, obviously, I'll take that time slot". Now. Boy-Child#2's school dismissal time is 2:15pm. What do you think the chances of the delivery truck showing up at exactly that time, are? 100% is the correct answer. And do you think you might find it funny that they only have 2 pieces of your 3 piece sectional loaded onto the truck? Maybe not funny-"haha", but somewhere in the realm of comical. And now I'm not only late in picking up my son but they're going to have to come back later with more couch! Lucky for them they stuck some hurry up on it and were back toot sweet. Dudes. That is my life. I'm not even kidding. So, I'll shut up now and show you THE couch! *cue angels singing*

And the sconces! Tootsie is so pleased. Stand by for update on coffee table. Or not.

It's beautiful, Tootsie. Almost brings tears to my eyes, given that I'm still in projectile hell and have to stick to starter furniture a while longer.

Awwwww.... I puffy heart your new adult couch.

I can't wait to upgrade my starter furniture. But for now... I have a puppy that isn't house trained, a baby that isn't potty trained, a clumsy middle child, and a husband who loves to eat on the couch. We will have to wait a couple of years.

:)

Oh, I have couch envy! That is gorgeous!
My advice on the coffee table shopping, for the love of all that is holy and to save your marriage, SHOP WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND! LEAVE HUBBY AT HOME! I know of what I speak!

That's some couch! Good luck with the coffee table. I'm still not allowed to have one because people lie on the floor all the time.

That is gorgeous. Beautiful.

I'm so jealous.

If you never do find a coffee table you might consider a coordinating ottoman. You can put a beautiful tray on it and use it for either a coffee table or ottoman as the situation requires.

If you have grown-up company you can throw a tablecloth over it and eat fondue ON the couch.

Can you tell that's what I decided to dou? Also, then there's no worries about slanty legs.

Oh, jealousy! I can't wait for a new, grown up couch. We're in need of a new couch, but will definitely be getting something brown, cheap and easily replaceable.

Sigh...

Okay, LOVE the grown up furniture. I like Jen's idea of the ottoman. I am gonna do that when we replace our Ikea-piece-of-crap-made-out-of-the-softest-wood-ever-take-4-hours-to-assemble-but-the-kids-can-still-bang-ong-it-and-we-dont-care table.

I bought a grown up kitchen table and chairs. My boys are 5 and 6 and I thought the time was finally okay. Not so much. Dents, dings, scratches. I have not had it for 6 months. The pricetag was that - we will have this for the next 25 years table. Waaaahh!

KEEP BELIEVING

Ooooohhhhh aaaaaahhhhhh!!! That is a lovely couch. I would love to sit/ lay/ sleep on it right now.

I can't wait to see the coffee table that will go with it.

The sconces look very nice too.

You're the smartest. Nobody told me about starter furniture. I bought a sofa like that with a toddler and a 200lb lap dog. See that cozy corner there on the chaise end? That's where the dog laid, all day, everyday. Unless lottery winnings are forthcoming, I'll have to keep living in jealousy of your shiny new doesn't stink and isn't hairy sofa.

Love your couch! Good luck with Mr. T and the negotiations on the coffee table. I HATE it when I drop a load of cash and get no service. Ticks me off royally. So I complain to the management and get the royal treatment of discounts and cash back incentives to not blab my mouth off in public and return to their store for future purchases. It's a dirty business, but I feel it's my civic duty.

You could have parties! With booze! (Stay away from the red wine.) And everyone could lounge around...

Although it was a pain, it looks worth the aggravation.

Wow! Great couch. I love sectionals with chaises. And the pattern i nice too. Sweet deal. I am planning on redecorating my room next week, so I feel your pain/joy, already.

Love that fabric! Totally worth the aggravation...in the long run.

Yo. I want to sit on the couch and eat bon bons (okay, no food, I know) and watch Lipstick Jungle with you.

Beoootiful!! I wish I had a room big enough for one of those babies! I'm having couch envy!

Gorgeous! So jealous! Will have to stay with my crappy-been-loved-by-all-animals-and-children couch and loveseat for a few more years. According to hubby, until the cats have croaked (even though the cat that did 99% of the scritchy-scratchy on the loveseat has already croaked). I'm still in awe that they only originally had 2/3 of your couch...and yes, it is funny because I did laugh!

dorothy said...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! As you already know! I can't wait to sink into those yummy cushions.

Groovy Mom said...

Beautiful couch! But where did you get it? I want to make sure to buy furniture somewhere else. That much aggravation would do me in.

Bunny Bunster said...

Oh! I LURVE it! It looks so sawft and comfy.
I'm with Jenn@juggling life, I got a big ass ottoman and a leather tray, way cool!! Plus, the kids can sit on it as well. Dual purpose.

do not be surprised if you come into the room one morning and find me curled up and sleeping on your couch. it is wonderful! we are still doing the starter furniture -- 15 years into our marriage.....

I love when my husband suddenly decides to have an opinion on house matters he typically avoids. Good luck with that one!

I am thrilled for you that the couch finally arrived. Lucky you, I currently sink to the floor sitting on my lovely 6 year old starter couch.

Horray for your new couch! We had to buy a coffee table recently - it was quite a nightmare...

Karen said...

I hear the angels. And it's beautiful. I just want to run my hands over it, smell it, make out with it.

Sorry, I have that fabric addiction and that is one supa-fine couch.

Your big girl couch is beautiful! I can totally see myself curled up on it with a glass of wine in my hand. Invite me over! Oh yeah, and I'd need a plane ticket, too.

I could curl up and take a 25 hour nap on that thing. Lovely.

The fabric on that couch is simply luscious!

Thanks y'all! I'm so happy with it! The chaise lounge is officially Tootsie territory. I'm considering putting up barriers. So yeah. Party at my house. Bring jammies and non-staining alcoholic beverages. Vodka is clear.

Karen~ I'm going coffee table shopping on Friday and I'm taking my sister. She's got better taste anyway.

AAAHHH...I could DIVE into that couch right now, Miss Tootsie. What an ordeal to get the couch in your home, though. Jeez...I hope you curled up and drank heavily once all the pieces had arrived.

New stuff is SO fun! I have one of those big leather ottomans. They are awesome!

Blessed sectional and Holy sconces! I am so relieved that it is all there and PERFECT. I am jealous of the couch, sconces and children's bodily functions actually landing in the toilet...wow girl, you got it all.

Madame Queen said...

I'm still a few years away from "real" furniture too. But that sofa? IS GORGEOUS!!!! I'm drooling over it. Seriously.

anglophilefootballfanatic said...

I'm with everybody above who is still worrying about the bodily functions and scratches created by small kids. I would love to have furniture without chunks missing. Maybe one day I'll be able to get a couch and sconces! Looks stunning. Can't wait for the coffee table update.

Angela said...

I would kill to have that thing in my living room. I'm serious.

stephanie said...

Do you just roll around all the sections everyday? I would. It's gorgeous.
